Home Mission Night at the Races People Ball Parade for Dogs Scrapbook Links

The mission of our Krewe is to have fun while helping our less fortunate furry friends.  To that end, we have implemented a plan to reduce the number of unwanted animals through public education about the many benefits of spaying or neutering pets.

There are many reasons to spay or neuter, including:

bulletHelping reduce the number of unwanted animals.
bulletMales have less tendency to roam, to mark territory or to exert dominance over family members.
bulletNo cancer of reproductive organs.
bulletNo personality changes due to heat cycles in females.

Every day 70,000 puppies and kittens are  born in the United States.  Ten to Twelve million animals are euthanized every year, because there simply aren't enough homes for them

Mascot for the Krewe des Chiens says,

"YOU can make a difference by spaying or neutering your pet."

Our mission helps the many shelters and animal aid organizations in the Acadiana area that are in need of financial help.  Since the first parade rolled around the perimeter of the Acadiana Mall in February of 1999, Krewe des Chiens has had many recipients.  Each year the Krewe gets together at Evangeline Down for "A Night at the Races" where the organizations benefiting from the Krewe's fundraising receive their checks.  As we look to the future, our goal is to help reduce the rapid growth of the animal population by educating the public about the importance of having your pets spayed or neutered.  By your participation and help, we can work towards a healthy animal population.  We are proud that together with the community, we have been able to help the animal population.

DO YOU KNOW????

Health Benefits of pet Ownership - In our hearts we know that pets enrich our lives, and in recent years scientific studies have begun to pin-point the ways that companion animals improve our minds and our bodies.  Beyond walks and "fetch", beyond lazy days in the sun and eager faces at the end of the day, pets provide documented health benefits.  A 1993 report in the Harvard Health Letter explains that companion animals have more consistent behavior compared to our human companions and that they offer unconditional affection.  The effect:  lower blood pressure, heart rate, and anxiety level for pet owners.  We repay them with love and attention.  In fact, more than 60% of pets receive "as much attention as children," according to the 1994 American Animal Hospital Association pet owner survey.
