"Disco Dog"

Queen File’ VIII

“Sweetpea” is the canine companion of Patricia Estorge.  Sweetpea is a six-year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the proud mother of Elsie and Elmer.  Her proud Welsh Corgi siblings are Zoe, Mickey and Ceasar.  Sweetpea loves to ride in the car, especially in the front passenger seat where she navigates.  When not lounging on her veranda in Lafayette, she spends her time hiking in Aspen and shopping at C.B. Paws.

King Gumbo VIII

“Sage” is the canine son of Kevin Hislop and the nephew of Michael Doumit.  Sage served as co-parade Marshals in 2004 along with his late brother Sendell Grant .  Sage’s favorite pastime is playing ball with his human and chasing squirrels in the neighborhood.  He loves to sleep late, and he is a huge fan of Judge Judy and the Carolina Panthers.  Sage has done television commercials, runway modeling and still print ads.  He is an active member of his neighborhood watch association.

Royal Duchess

“Beagle Bailey”, aka "The Boo," is a 2-year-old pocket beagle and the canine daughter of Penny and Bubba Beasley.  In 2005 Bailey was honored with her canine sister, Daisy Duke, to be the Krewe's Grand Marshal as a result of her "Meme's" bid in the radio auction.  While Bailey enjoys chasing the four family felines, she is still a team player and passionately cleans their dishes when no one is looking.

Royal Duke

“Rusty” served as the Krewe’s Duke in 2004. Rusty is the canine son of Jessica Wiley.  He is a 5-year-old Jack Russell Terrier.  Rusty thinks of himself as a professional ball player.  Rusty loves excitement and has recently learned how to swim and climb trees.  Rusty is a loyal pup and is fiercely independent.

Court Jester

Xena, a 7-year-old Yorke, is the canine daughter of Maggie and Charlie Justus.  When not outside “sunbathing” or playing with her human sister Madeleine, she is relaxing chewing on a greenie.  Xena’s other favorite pastime is riding in the stroller with her sister as Mom takes them for a run.

GRAND MARSHAL

The position of Parade Grand Marshal was auctioned in a live radio broadcast on 99.9 with C.J. and Debbie Ray.  The winner is “Gabe” Doiron.  The highest bid went to the staff of Doiron Plauche’ Veterinary Hospital.  Dr. Andy Plauche’ and his staff bid $1,600 in memory of the late Dr. Donald Doiron.  After that, the bidding took on a life of its own.  Friends associated and those who knew Dr. Doiron called in and donated so that Gabe could reign as Grand Marshal.  As of Feb. 3rd, only 2 days after the auction, contributions continue to come in.  The amount raised is in excess of 6,000.

Who is Gabe?  When the term “Man’s Best Friend” is used it cannot truly begin to describe the special bond that “Gabe,” a 9 year old black lab, had with his owner Dr. Donald W. Doiron, DVM.  When not at work, Dr. Doiron and Gabe could always be found hunting teal, doves, geese or they could be found together outside.  Gabe was constantly at Dr. Doiron’s side while he was working on his boat or cleaning his catch of the day.  Some people say that dogs are just “animals” and have no feelings of sense of what goes on around them however, if they could see the difference in Gabe since Dr. Doiron passed away, they would see how wrong they are.  His bark has become subdued and he lacks the joy he once loved to express.  Gabe is waiting for his best friend to come home and is grieving for the friend he will forever miss.  His expression of love is a true testament to the dedication, love and companionship an animal has with his owner, and the joy that it brings into both lives.

Gabe will lead this years’ “Disco Dogs” parade with Mrs. Marie Doiron, her children and her grand children.   This year's parade will be dedicated to the life of Dr. Donald Doiron, for the love and compassion he showed for both humans and animals alike.

The Krewe extends a special thanks to all who made a donation.
